Jonathan is a Chartered Accountant (CA), holds a public practising certificate and is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia. Born in 1974, he joined Moroney Wray Jackson as a partner in 2008, having previously worked for a major international firm, in industry and finance lending.
Since qualification he has worked in business advisory, audit and taxation where his clients have ranged from individuals to small and medium enterprises . Jonathan provides individual and corporate tax compliance and planning services to clients and additionally advises on GST and CGT matters. He frequently assists clients in corporate restructuring exercises and on acquisitions and disposals. He also provides superannuation advice and is a registered SMSF auditor. He audits not-for-profit organisations.
Jonathan is married with three children, and his family run a horse agistment property south of Hobart. He is a keen sailor, enjoys horse riding and loves football.
Darren Wray is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), holds a public practising certificate and is a tax agent. Born in 1970, he formed Rooke Wray (now Moroney Wray Jackson) in 2002, having previously worked for a major national firm.
Since qualification he has specialised in corporate taxation where his clients have ranged from family businesses and start-ups to medium sized companies groups. He provides corporate tax compliance and planning services to clients and additionally advises on GST and CGT matters. He frequently assists clients in corporate restructuring exercises and on acquisitions and disposals. He also provides superannuation advice and is a registered SMSF auditor.
He has a partner, with two sons, and he and his family live in Hobart. He plays football, squash, and is a keen cyclist.
Tim graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2000 and has since worked in public practice. Tim is a Chartered Accountant, completing his ICAA Public Practice certificate in 2006. Tim’s post tertiary education also includes a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning and more recently an update to his PS 146 Financial Planning qualifications specialising in superannuation. Tim is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, The Tax Institute, and National Tax and Accountants Association. Tim has worked in large and small firms and his passion is small business, ensuring clients have the best platform to succeed in a very competitive environment.
In his spare time Tim has served on numerous community and not for profit boards. He has also managed to train and complete two marathons, and still loves to try and wield the willow or squash racquet!
Deena Moroney is our Practice Manager. Deena is a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Tax Institute and has 27 years’ experience as an accountant spanning a broad range of industries. Deena initially started her trade in numerous family – owned businesses, before moving to the public sector. Deena has moved to a client management role where her expertise of dealing with the ATO and prioritising client needs are first class!
Deena is currently the Treasurer of Taroona Football Club, she enjoys playing in their Women’s Social team, reading and relaxing at the shack.
Jessica Cartledge is a Chartered Accountant (CA). Jessica was raised in Tasmania. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce at UTAS.
Since qualification she has specialised in self-managed superannuation advice and tax. She provides corporate tax compliance and planning services to clients. She frequently assists clients in dealing with complex issues with their MYOB and QuickBooks matters.
Wendy Yeoh is a Chartered Accountant (CA). Wendy was raised in Penang, Malaysia. She completed a Bachelor of Business (Hons) at UTAS.
Since qualification she has specialised in taxation. Her clients have ranged from individuals to small sized companies. She provides corporate tax compliance and planning services to clients. She frequently assists clients in dealing with complex issues with their MYOB and QuickBooks issues. and has become a champion of XERO accounting software in the firm.
She lives in Hobart. She enjoys swimming.
Accountant & Cloud Advisor
Sophie Ross joined MWJ in 2012 as a receptionist and is now working in the administration and bookkeeping section of the firm. Born in 1991, Sophie was raised in the Huon Valley, south of Hobart. She is currently completing her diploma in accounting.
Sophie is XERO certified and assists and prepares clients with their BAS and bookkeeping matters. She provides support to staff and clients with matters involving the ATO and ASIC. She specialises in cloud accounting and frequently assists with clients in dealing with issues in MYOB and XERO.
Sophie enjoys music and teaches piano in the Huon Valley and Hobart area.
Jak completed his Bachelor of Business at UTAS in 2014 and is currently studying for his Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.
Since starting his career in accounting, Jak’s experience has been centred around small businesses that cover a range of industries and entity types. He has extensive experience with cloud accounting and currently holds a Xero Certification and a Xero Payroll certification. He specialises in tax planning and compliance for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies and is passionate about contributing to the success of small businesses.
Jak was born and raised in Launceston but made the move south for his studies and now lives in Hobart with his partner and her cat. In his spare time he enjoys playing soccer and is mad about cars.
Brayden graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2016 with a Bachelor of Business. Brayden is currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting with an expected completion date in early 2018.
Brayden is our resident individual income tax specialist however he has a broad accounting knowledge and is well experienced in Partnership, Company, Trust, and Superannuation Fund financial accounting, as well as CGT issues, and BAS preparation.
Born in 1994, Brayden was raised in Hobart.
Sophie started with us in May 2017 after her return from the UK, where she had been working for 2 years in the Audit department of a mid-tier accountancy firm.
Sophie graduated from the University of Murdoch in WA in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Business Accounting and has since commenced her Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting.
Sophie’s experience and skillset in audit makes her a valuable asset to MWJ, assisting clients in all their audit needs.
In her spare time Sophie enjoys playing netball & basketball, as well as hanging out with her three dogs.
Michael grew up on the NW coast of Tasmania in a little town called Penguin on his parent’s chicken farm. He moved to Hobart in 1998 and graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1999 he then gained his Certified Practicing Accountant registration in 2005 and is a member of the Tax Institute. He has previously worked in the public service as an Accountant and commenced working in Private Practice in August 2016. He has two young children Georgina and Lachlan and has participated in a variety of sports at varying levels of success, he enjoys keeping fit and one of his most Memorable experiences was completing a Triathlon in New Zealand.
Ryan Brazendale is an Undergraduate Accountant.
Ryan is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business at University of Tasmania on a part time basis.
Born in 1996, Ryan went to Rosny College and was awarded the Accounting Excellence certificate in 2013.
He loves cricket and can be found in the office talking about the weekend’s game at any free moment!
